Margate Jazz Festival
HISTORY
The annual Margate Jazz Festival is now an established event in Margate’s summer programme.
It has played an important part in the cultural renaissance of Margate.
We are entirely run by volunteers and raise funds through sponsorship, grants and awards. We benefit from the support of the Vortex Jazz Foundation and we are indebted to the Margate Town Partnership and Thanet District Council for their support over the last 8 years.
It began in 2005 and over the years the Festival has featured a host of jazz stars including Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth, Nigel Kennedy, Courtney Pine, Jamie Cullum, Christine Tobin, Clare Martin and Norma Winstone to name just a few.
Dave Mossman, the founder of the Festival, is also a Director of the legendary Vortex Jazz Club in London. Dave is the inspiration and lifeblood of the Festival and it was his dream to bring a high quality, contemporary Jazz Festival to the people of Margate.
